Dear Colleagues and Friends,

It is my great honor to serve as the Conference Chair of the 35th Annual Meeting of the Japan Association of Adult Orthodontics (JAAO) and the 4th International Scientific Meeting, to be held on June 19–20, 2027, in Tokyo, Japan.

The theme of our meeting is:

“Evolution and True Value of Adult Orthodontics
— From Asia to the World”

This theme has a special meaning. In Japanese, the words for “evolution” and “true value” are both pronounced “shinka,” although they have different meanings. This reflects the central message of our meeting: as adult orthodontics continues to evolve through new technologies and treatment approaches, we must also continue to explore and reaffirm its true value for our patients.

In recent years, adult orthodontics has undergone remarkable changes through advances in digital technology, clear aligner therapy, CBCT, artificial intelligence, and treatment strategies incorporating temporary anchorage devices (TADs). These innovations have greatly expanded the possibilities of orthodontic diagnosis and treatment.

At the same time, rapid technological progress gives us an important opportunity to reconsider the fundamental question: What is the true value of adult orthodontic treatment?

Adult orthodontics is not simply about aligning teeth. It requires a comprehensive approach that considers function, esthetics, long-term stability, and the individual needs and values of each patient. While embracing innovation, we must also preserve the fundamental principles of orthodontics and continue to pursue treatment that provides genuine and lasting value.

For this international meeting, we are inviting distinguished speakers from Japan, Asia, and around the world to share the latest scientific evidence, innovative technologies, and extensive clinical experience. We are especially pleased to welcome speakers from both the Taiwan Orthodontic Society (TOS) and the Taiwan Association of Orthodontists (TAO), further strengthening the longstanding academic collaboration and friendship between Japan and Taiwan.

To make the meeting accessible to our international colleagues, all presentations delivered in Japanese are planned to be accompanied by English subtitles, allowing participants from different countries to learn together and exchange ideas beyond language barriers.

As we celebrate the 35th Annual Meeting of JAAO, we also wish to honor the achievements of those who have built and supported our association while taking an important step toward the next generation of adult orthodontics.

From Asia to the World.

Let us explore the True Value of adult orthodontics, embrace its continuing Evolution, and together shape its future.
